Meizu unveils its first fitness tracker, the Meizu Band

Fitness bands are hot right now.

Fitbit has been absolutely killing it over the last couple of years, and has managed to maintain its position at the top of the wearables space throughout the rise of Android Wear and the Apple Watch devices.

While there are plenty of affordable Fitbit devices out there, the company still has yet to secure a position in the ultra affordable fitness tracker market. That space is slowly but surely being filled by various Chinese manufacturers, who have managed to push out some surprisingly high quality hardware at extremely low prices.

Now Meizu, the company that has manufactured various mid-range smartphones, is looking to secure a position in the fitness tracker space with the introduction of the Meizu Band.

The Meizu Band sports a sleek, simple design

Meizu’s new Band features a sleek and unassuming design and a concealed OLED screen that blends in with the band quite nicely. It will, of course, be able to tell the time, as well as track your daily steps, calories and heart rate via the built-in AMS heart rate monitor.

It’ll also show incoming notifications like calls and texts, and can even be used to locate a lost phone if it’s connected via Bluetooth. Plus, if you spend most of your time in a chair, the Meizu Band also features move reminders to help remind you get up and stretch your legs.

The Band pairs with the Meizu Health smartphone app, which will allow you to see more detailed information on your daily activity. There are also a handful of neat social features built into the app, like the ability to “like” other users’ workouts and compete with friends.

The Band is charged by magnetically attaching it to the included charger, which is surprisingly short but holds the band well, even if placed vertically. A full charge is said to last a full seven days, but we have yet been able to test the device fully as the English app is not out quite yet.

The new device also features an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, which means you should be fine to take it in the shower with you, or even go for a swim.

The best part? The Meizu Band will launch for ¥229, which is about $33 USD. That puts it squarely in Xiaomi Mi Band 2 range.

We’ll bring you our full review once the English version of the app is available. The device is up for pre-order in China from today, and will hit store shelves on December 8. There’s no word yet as to whether or not it will come to the United States (or any other market, for that matter), but we’ll be sure to let you know when we get more details.

So tell us – does the Meizu Band have you interested? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

What makes this new smartwatch so special? For starters, the Amazfit PACE is packed with features we normally don’t see in this price range. Since this is a smartwatch, it will of course be able to tell the time and display weather information. It runs on a proprietary operating system (aka not Android Wear or Tizen), but will be able to interact with your Android or iOS device via its own app. You’ll be able to get email, text notifications and more.

The Amazfit PACE will provide weather, email, text notifications and more

The smartwatch sports a 1.34-inch circular display with a 320 x 300 resolution, a 1.2GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. There’s also 4GB of on-board storage, which is enough to store a few music playlists for listening on the go with some Bluetooth headphones. The Amazfit PACE isn’t just a smartwatch, though – it also has a bevy of fitness tracking features. For starters, it has a built-in GPS, which Xiaomi says is using the world’s first 28nm GPS sensor. Not only that, it also comes with a heart rate sensor and an IP67 water resistance rating. It basically has all the features we like to see in a smartwatch and fitness tracker.

As mentioned, this smartwatch is on sale from today at for $129. If you’re interested, head to the link attached below.

Level up your NBA 2K17 skills by reaching Fitbit’s daily fitness goal of 10,000 steps

Playing too many video games isn’t always the healthiest choice you could make, because sitting on your couch all day doesn’t exactly do your fitness level any favors. That’s why 2K Games, the developer of the popular NBA 2K17 game, has recently announced an interesting partnership with Fitbit.

All you hardcore NBA 2K17 fans will soon be able to step up your game and increase your chances of getting a championship ring by staying active throughout the day. The new partnership between the companies will offer players temporary in-game boosts to their MyPlayer category if they take at least 10,000 steps per day while using one of Fitbit’s activity trackers.

You can choose between boosting your agility, layups, dunks, and more. However, the boost will only last for five games. After that, you’ll have to hit the streets and rack up the required 10,000 steps to activate it again.

Which Fitbit is right for you? (November 2016)

This is the first integration of its kind we’ve seen, as it combines the virtual and physical world in a creative way. Everyone involved gets something out of it: the game developer keeps its users more engaged, Fitbit gets a bit more exposure and can even slightly increase its sales, while gamers get off the couch and become more active.

The new feature will be added to the game on November 25 and will work on both PS4 and Xbox One.

Any NBA 2K17 fans out there? What do you think about the new Fitbit integration?
