September 1, 2016

Usually priced at $299.99, for a limited time only, the ZTE Axon 7 Mini can be yours for as low as just $199. For the Ion Gold variant, Best Buy will be offering a $100 discount starting this Sunday, and for the Platinum Grey version, a $50 discount. Whichever color it is, it’s not a bad deal – but make sure to get your order in before the 10th!

Just as a quick refresher, the ZTE Axon 7 Mini is a smaller version of the Axon 7 (duh), but it is by no means small. With a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with a FHD resolution, the device is a tiny bit bigger than most flagships out there, including the Galaxy S7. However, it does boast very thin bezels, and design wise, I must admit, it’s a stunning phone to look at.

Inside, we find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a beefy 2,705mAh battery. On the back is a 16-megapixel phase detection AF camera, and on the front is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter. Indeed, the phone does have a microSD slot and the good old 3.5mm headphone jack.

If you’re looking for a well-designed midranger with pretty impressive specs, save the links below for this weekend. Again, both colors are currently priced at $299, but starting this Sunday, Best Buy will be offering them at lower prices.

Ion Gold for $199
Platinum Gray for $249

LeEco ditches flash sales, will sell its phones at Amazon, Best Buy and Target

When China-based LeEco announced it was going to start selling its smartphones in the US earlier this fall, it made the decision to go with the “flash sale” business plan. It only let people purchase its products in the space of a few hours. Apparently that plan didn’t work well so LeEco is now ditching the flash sale for a more traditional online US retail business model.

LeEco Le Pro3 review

Starting today, the company’s LeMall.com web store is now open permanently in the US. Furthermore, it will sell the LeEco Le S3 and Le Pro3 smartphones and smart TVs at Amazon, Target and Best Buy starting on Thursday, December 1. This is definitely a switch for the business and it may show that it realizes that sales tactics that may work in China don’t necessarily work the same in the US.

This news comes as the company is also dealing with reports that its financial status is not quite on solid ground, although it did report recently that it raised $600 million in new financing. The company is one of several China-based smartphone makers that are trying to break through into the US market in 2017. Having its products sold 24 hours a day at big retail chains certainly won’t hurt, but it still remains to be seen if LeEco will stand out from this already crowded field.

Deal: Verizon prepaid Moto G4 Play for just $35 at Best Buy (no activation required)

Cyber Monday 2016 is full of online discounts and deals for tech gift buyers to sift through, and one of the better ones is over at Best Buy today. You can snag the Verizon prepaid version of the Moto G4 Play for a mere $34.99 right now from the retailer’s website. That’s a huge $50 price cut from its normal $84.99 cost.

While you can purchase the phone from Best Buy without having to sign up for service with Verizon, it’s likely that it is locked onto the carrier, at least for a few months. However, this is an excellent price for a second phone in case your primary device fails, or if you just want to use it at home on your Wi-Fi network.

As a reminder, the Moto G4 Play has a 5-inch 720p IPS-LCD display, a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of onboard storage with a microSD card slot to add up to 256G of additional storage. It also has an 8MP rear camera and a 5PM front-facing camera, along with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. We gave it a review of 7.5/10 back in September, but that was when it was priced at $149.99. This Cyber Monday price tag at Best Buy makes it a much more affordable, and desirable, lower-end Android phone.
